My Revised Curriculum Vitae

İmren Tüzün was born in Demre, Türkiye, in 1963. She completed her primary and secondary education in Demre and graduated from Antalya High School. She took a degree in Tourism Management at Akdeniz University.

From 1984 to 1999, she worked in the tourism sector in Antalya. In 1991, she began studying painting at Kaleiçi Sanatevi in the studio of painter Muhittin Selamet. From 1996 onward, she continued her artistic practice independently. In 1999, she left the professional sector and devoted herself to art.

Between 1991 and 2011, she visited museums in London, Venice, Florence, Milan, Paris, St. Petersburg, Skopje, Pristina, Nuremberg, Cologne, Bremerhaven, Berlin, Kassel, Vienna, Atlanta, and New York.

In 1995, she held her first solo exhibition, “First Solo Exhibition,” in Antalya.

Between 2000 and 2001, she helped lead the “Tuesday Meetings,” organized under the name “Mavi Boyut” (“Blue Dimension”) together with painter Muhittin Selamet, Hasan Tırmaş, Murat Sinkil, and writer Ahmet Tüzün. The meetings provided a space for reflection and discussion on the visual arts, literature, and other disciplines. Within this framework, they organized talks by Prof. Dr. İoanna Kuçuradi, “Art and Philosophy” (2000), and Prof. Dr. Ali Akay, “Modernism and Postmodernism” (2001).

She contributed to Antalya’s cultural and artistic life through collaborations with artists and writers. She supported exhibitions in Antalya by Ursula Soltermann Katipoğlu, Monika Desoska, Deanna Sirlin, Irena Paskali, and Martin Vosswinkel. Together with writer Nedim Gürsel, she organized a discussion at the Antalya Artists Association on his novel Resimli Dünya.

In 2002, she was invited by Joachim Bleistein, Director of the Nuremberg Art House, to participate in The First Heidenheim International Artist Colony. Bringing together contemporary artists from eight countries, the event contributed to new perspectives in her approach to art.

In the same year, she served on the Executive Committee of the First Antalya Painting Festival and was responsible for the Conference Program.

Her solo exhibitions include “Little Things” (Antalya, 2002), “Silence of Summer” (Antalya, 2003), “Attitudes and Moments” (Antalya, 2005), “Travelling to Balkan: Skopje-Pristina” (Antalya, 2006), and “Under the Facade” (Atlanta, USA, 2007).

In 2003, she participated in the XL International Plastic Arts Colony of Strumica, at the invitation of Zlatko Teodisievski, General Director of Davut Paşa Hamam in Skopje.

She participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Ansan Group Exhibition (Nuremberg, 2003), “Kente Taşınmak” with Irena Paskali (Antalya, 2007), “Akdenizlilik ve Gurbet” at the 17th Istanbul Art Fair (2007), “Hand to Hand” (Atlanta, 2008), and “1968’in 40. Yılı, Bir Rüzgârın Arkeolojik Kazısı” (Istanbul, 2008).

In 2004, 2005, and 2006, she served as the Antalya representative of Türkiye Sanat Yıllığı and published articles on exhibitions in Antalya. She also served as the Turkish Project Coordinator for the “Young Art Exhibition,” organized by International Paint Pals in Atlanta in connection with the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

With the support of filmmaker Françoise Pierrot, she produced the short film “On the Move” (2005, 7 min 28 sec). Her video works include “Walking on the Sea” (2007, 3 min), “Silence and Desire” (2011, 1 min), and “A Married Woman in Front of the Mediterranean” (2011, 1 min). She also produced the short film “Innocent Drawings” (2009, 5 min). Her films and video works have been screened at various festivals in Türkiye and abroad.

In 2009 and 2011, she served on the Organizing Committee of the First and Second Antalya Lemon Short Film Days.

In 2009, she was invited to participate in the 7th Florence Biennale, Florence, Italy.

In July 2011, she was invited to Germany by Wilke Atelier and the Municipality of Bremerhaven.

Alongside her visual art practice, she has written on poetry, literature, travel, the city, and everyday culture. Her writings and literary discussions have appeared in publications including Varlık, Mor Taka, Şiiri Özlüyorum, Simge, Kalekapısı, Yom Sanat, Düşlük, Portakal, Zalifre Yazıları, Amanos Edebiyat, and Pikera Kadın Harekatı. She has also written on travel, the city, and everyday culture for Körfez Gazetesi, Akdeniz Noktam, and Son Nokta.

Since 2017, she has been cataloguing the books held in the archives of Ahmet Tüzün and İmren Tüzün through the İmren&Ahmet Tüzün Library website; imrenahmettuzunkutuphanesi.org

In 2018, she completed her undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Anadolu University Open Education Faculty.

In 2019, she was invited as an independent scholar to participate in the II International Congress of Women Philosophers.

In 2025, she completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology at Istanbul University AZUEF.

She is a member of UPSD (International Association of Plastic Artists) and BESAM.

She is proficient in English and German and is currently learning French.

Philosophical dimensions and conceptual inquiries have been present in her artistic production from an early stage. Her study of philosophy later enabled her to recognize these dimensions more explicitly and to develop them conceptually. Her academic education in philosophy and sociology has provided a basis for continuing her artistic practice in dialogue with philosophical and sociological thought.

Philosopher, sociologist, and artist İmren Tüzün continues her work in Antalya.
